Summit Workshops

Workshop 1

Discipling in the Local Church

Mark Dever - South Hall

In the New Testament, the local church is at the very center of the disciples’ obedience and discipling work. It’s not optional; it’s basic. In this workshop, we’ll think a little bit more about how that works out practically in our lives and churches.

Women and Discipleship

Trillia Newbell - Chapel - (Women Only)

God has uniquely gifted and equipped his people to lead and serve others. In fact, the family of God functions at its best when we recognize, embrace, and utilize the unique giftings that we have been given. As women in leadership, we can guard against the dangers of comparison, while embracing, stewarding and pursuing our giftings. How do we guard against being disenchanted? Or how might we serve when opportunities aren’t clearly laid out? What are ways men might support us? As we work through these questions, let us remember that the ways we have been gifted and the opportunities we have been given in leadership and service are for the building up and expansion of God’s family. Ultimately, we have the privilege to serve and lead for his glory.

Deeper Metrics for Church Growth

Jared Wilson - Youth Lower

What if the things we typically measure don’t tell us everything about our church’s health? With some help from one of America’s first successful pastors, let’s distinguish between marks of neutrality and marks of Spiritual fruitfulness in our churches.

Inside Out – Discipleship with Heart

Jeff Schulte - Cry Room 2

Many of us have been taught that “feelings are the enemy of our faith” or we’ve not known what our feelings have to do with walking with God and others in intimate relationships. When we lose touch with our feelings, we lose touch with the depth and recognition of the very need that opens the door to all intimate relationships - and all we have to offer others is information. This session is about how God made us – feeling, needing, desiring, longing, and hoping.

Bobby Harrington - RM 227

Join their founder and director, Bobby Harrington, as he talks about the disciple making trends that are emerging for everyday Christians and leaders.

Peter & Cornelius: Acts 10

Rev. Rufus Smith, IV - RM 232

All of us suffer from prejudice & implicit bias, including the leading Apostle Peter. But through him the Holy Spirit reveals 5 keys to cross-cultural discipleship. How did this Jewish Apostle reach a Roman Italian Commander?

Making Disciples When You’ve Never Been Discipled

Ariyana Rimson - Cry Room 1 - Women Only

All too often, Christ-followers are left on the sideline, overcome with fear at the task of making disciples, because they’ve never experienced Biblical discipleship. They’ve never had someone say, “Follow me as I follow Christ.” This is certainly understandable! But the call and privilege for every Christian is to CO-mission with Christ. This workshop will help you know how to begin making disciples from what you are receiving today as a child of God and disciple of Jesus.

Creating a Discipleship Culture in your Church

Kennon Vaughan - RM 222/224 - (Geared for pastors and church leaders)

Being at a Summit is often like drinking from a fire hydrant! So much great stuff that at times it can be overwhelming. In this workshop, I’m hoping to help pastors and church leaders move from inspiration to preparation as I talk about what is absolutely necessary to create a discipleship culture at your church and give examples of what we’ve learned in 5 years of this pursuit at Harvest Church.

The Cost of Discipleship

Brian Davis - Youth Loft

Do you know that there is a wrong way to follow Jesus? That it is not just sufficient for someone to follow Jesus the way they want to, but to follow Jesus means you follow Jesus the way he tells you to. We want to consider this in view of God’s Word.

Carving Arrows: Foundations for Family Discipleship

Daniel Hinton - RM 230

Psalm 127:4 says, “Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.” This session will provide a biblical bedrock for family discipleship, a practical guide for making disciples at home, and fascinating findings from recent research.

Inside Out – The Longest 18 Inches on Earth

Jeff Schulte - Cry Room 2

Most of us grew up confusing helplessness with neediness; so the way God made us, human and in need, is the thing about us we most despise and seek to overcome. We survive by not needing... but we don’t live. The tragic result is lack of intimacy with God and lack of deep satisfying relationships with others. This session explores the journey from head to heart.

Discipleship is not only about beginning well, but continuing well. We must not only begin the right way, but continue the right way in following Jesus. To help us in this great aim, God has provided means for our encouragement and endurance in His Word.
