Life on Life

Hello Ladies,

I wanted to discuss with you one of the key areas of discipleship. Remember a few blogs ago I wrote about the importance of praying for the woman you are discipling. As you prepare to attend our conference in a few weeks I want to encourage you to look at 1 Thessalonians 2:8. In this passage he writes, “So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.” Paul wanted to share truth and life with them because of his love for them. Ladies when you begin to disciple someone their is a love that develops for them, you desire to see them grow in their knowledge of God, and His will for believers and into godly women. You will also desire to spend intentional time with them. I had the opportunity to take the girl I am discipling on a road trip with me to visit some of my close friends. It was great for us to talk and laugh hysterically at the experiences we have had, we also cried over some of the hardships we have gone through, we had a time of praise and worship while driving for 5 hours. I wouldn’t trade that time for any bible study or lesson that we studied, because it was during that time that I got to hear her heart and she heard mine also. This in addition to biblical curriculum will lead to an effective discipleship relationship.

Here are a few practical ways to spend some life on life time with the ladies you are discipling:

cook dinner together

clean together

go grocery shopping together

go on a road trip

take them with you on a weekend getaway

have a girl night (movies, popcorn)

The goal is to allow them into your daily routines, you want them to see how a godly woman lives.

Prayer: One Key Component of Discipleship

January 7, 2010 No comments yet

This year I have had the awesome opportunity to disciple two ladies in our Emerging Leader program. Through this relationship I’m constantly reminded to pray for them in addition to praying with them. It is awesome to stand in the gap for the ones you pour into. As you know Christ is our model for making disciples, In John 17 He shows us that prayer is a key component. In verse 8 He states that He gave them the words that God the Father gave Him and that they received them and truly understood them. Then in verse 11 He asks that they be kept in the name. Later on in verse 15 He asks that they be kept from the evil one. As we disciple women we need to pray that they stand firm in the word of God and that they will not be lead astray.

Reason for Discipleship

January 5, 2010 No comments yet

We currently have 6 weeks before the Legacy conference and I just want to share some insight I heard on discipleship. Kathryn Vaughan answered the following question: “Why do you disciple women?” Her response was a great reminder for me. First we disciple because God is Lord in our lives as seen in Matthew 28:18-20, He gives us the commission to make disciples because He has all authority. We see in Titus 2:3-5 women are instructed to teach younger women in various areas of womanhood. So because He is Lord, my response is to live a lifestyle that obeys His command. In 1 Thessalonians 2:8 we read that because of the love that Paul had for the breathren he shared not only his life but the gospel of God with them. We also see in Mark 3:14 that Jesus said that His disciples would be with Him so that He could send them out. I am supposed to have a love for the women in my life that I want to share my life with them and the word of God. Lastly because God is Lord that relationship directs my lifestyle which allows me to leave a legacy. In Deut. 6 we see in the first two verses that the people were instructed to teach the commandments to their children. In turn their children would fear (reverence) the Lord. Also in 1 Thessalonians 3:8 we see Paul saying that he truly lives knowing that the brethren are standing firm in the Lord. We have such an awesome mandate from Christ. We are to pour out our lives and the word of God on those around us. I pray you will look over these verses and allow God to speak to you in this area.
