According to numerous surveys and studies being done on discipleship in the church today by trustworthy sources such as Josh McDowell, George Barna, Willow Creek’s “Reveal” study, and others, statistics show we have a growing and glaring problem. As legendary seminary Professor Howard Hendricks told me in a recent discussion, “Never has the church been so educated as it is today, and yet never has it had so little impact on its culture.” So what is the problem? Why isn’t the Church in the West today penetrating and redeeming its culture?
